Where to Watch Movies in CDO: Moviefy, Koze or Stargaze?
Gone are the days of spending 3 hours inside a video rental shop looking for perfect film art to jump out at you. That’s all done online now with the latest trend of emerging local “movie houses” giving you the closest Cinema experience at the most affordable rates. Unlike in Cinema malls, movies are shown for a short period of date in a strict scheduled time. With movie houses, you can watch any movie you want at your preferred day and time (ofcourse according to the availability of rooms and movies). As far as I know, there are about 4 movie houses here in Cagayan de Oro. I’ve tried three of them so let me walk you with my experience so, where to watch movies in CDO: Moviefy, Koze or Stargaze? .
Stargaze DVD Movie House
Starting from the first movie house in town, Stargaze DVD movie house located at Capistrano kalambaguhan St. is the most affordable one for only P150 for 2 persons and a fee of P50 per extra person. The place closely resembles a real movie theatre with lots of movie character standees. In fact, I almost “died” by the time I saw “The ring” standee at the end of the comfort room hallway.haha Their canteen area is also movie-theatr-ish set-up.
Their movies come in original DVDs which is pretty amazing during their first few months, however, by the time other movie houses emerge, their collection now includes pirated ones. Basing from our experience, we thought the problem was just coming from their projector and we had a long argument with the receptionist before she finally revealed that it was not a DVD copy.
Screen Resolution: Not Good. The movies tend to zoom in previewing a somewhat documentary / history movie with not so much color.lol
Room Space: Big and spacious. In fact, most of their rooms have their own private CR with even showers.haha
Customer Service: Needs Improvement. The receptionist is not even knowledgeable enough to suggest or recommend movies.
Movie Browsing (when choosing movies): I like how their DVDs are displayed in shelf so I get to see the pictures with its corresponding summary. They also have a list with no picture while the new ones are just added in handwritten.
Remarks: Overall experience is good enough to watch a movie at a very affordable rate which is perfect for movies in two parts (equivalent already to one movie screening in other movie houses).
Koze Movie Cafe
Located just within the city proper at 2F Grand Central, Pabayo-Hayes St., Koze Movie Cafe is the perfect place for last minute Movie plans. Rates start from P200 for 2 persons and P50 fee for extra person. This is the second movie house we visited and we’re amazed with their movie collections with a lot of new releases. Their TV in the lobby, on the other hand, shows movie trailers, which is a great way to get ideas for those who are undecided yet. They also sell korean ice cream to keep you from being bored while waiting for your turn. You can bring food inside since they don’t have corkage but if not, I’m sure you’ll also love our favorite combo, their P300 Movie + 2 soda + popcorn.
Screen Resolution: Good. Clear enough but the distance from the screen makes it still look zoom in.hehe
Room Space: Cozy (koze) enough to watch a movie, however, the small rooms may need you to look/tilt upwards.
Customer Service: Exccellent. They know the movies very well and would even initiate in suggesting you with good movie choices.
Movie Browsing (when choosing movies): Super easy. They have 2 iPads at the receptionist you can freely browse. They also have miniature picture frame boxes on wall of movies.
Remarks: Overall experience is very good. When you ran out of plans, this is the last place you can go and end the night.
Moviefy Home Theatre & KTV
We had a hard time finding the exact location of Moviefy Home Theatre & KTV but as soon as we found out knowing that it’s just nearby Night Cafe at 189 Tomas Saco 15th St, Nazareth, we’re now having more movie time than desserts.lol Their rates are a bit higher with a minimum of P300 for two persons and still P50 for extra person. They have a different rate for Extended Movies, as they describe it, movies that are longer than the typical movie duration like Titanic and etc. They allow sodas and chips to brought inside for free but for burgers and pizzas, they charge corkage fee. What I like in moviefy is the fact that it is indeed a home theatre because it’s a house turned to theatre giving you a “feel at home” movie experience.
Screen Resolution: Excellent that closely resembles the mall cinemas. Unlike from other movie houses, the wall where they project the screen is colored black (I think so) to fully show the movies in its truest colors.
Room Space: Very comfortable. They have reclining chairs, mats on the floor and lots of pillows which you would normally want when watching a movie.
Customer Service: Very accommodating.
Movie Browsing (when choosing movies): Movie collections are put inside a clearbook with illustrations so, still, it’s easy to browse.
Remarks: Although the price may not be that affordable but the overall experience is great. We usually watch horror movies here.hehe
