The Modern Nanays of Mindanao uniquely celebrates breastfeeding week in stylish snaps nursing their babies and toddlers captured by Fourth Legara. The series of images were displayed in a Photo Exhibit that started yesterday, July 31, 2016, 4pm at the Event Center, Limketkai Mall, Cagayan de Oro. The event is also in line of the annual celebration of the Global Big Latch On, introduced as “Hakab Na” here in the Philippines.
What is the Global Latch On or Hakab na?
The time has come again to celebrate world breast-feeding week by latching on those babes! This coming August 6, 2016 women and babies around the world will be breast-feeding at the same time to try and beat last year’s record of breast-feeding moms.
For those who are unfamiliar with the Big Latch On, this is an event that started in New Zealand in 2005 during World Breastfeeding Week. The mission of the Big Latch On is to protect, promote, and support breastfeeding women and each year groups of breastfeeding women come together at locations all around the world to latch on their children at a designated time and day in honor of this mission and to attempt to set a new record!
Hakab Na 2016 is the Philippines’ counterpart of The Global Big Latch On. It is a breastfeeding campaign to increase awareness about giving the best feeding to the babies which is breastfeeding. Also, it aims to increase support from the society and hopefully to normalize breastfeeding in public.
When and Where will Hakab na take place?
For this year, Modern Nanays of Mindanao and Breastfeeding Pinays will host the simultaneous latching on of babies for 60 seconds this coming August 6,2016 at 9:00 AM at the Activity Center, Limketkai Mall,Cagayan de Oro City.
